Abstract :In Darcy’s Utopia (1990), Fay Weldon envisages a utopian world, in which women are emancipated from the socio-economic and political oppression of the patriarchal society. The writer challenges male authority, and reveals the contradictions in the patriarchal system through manipulating patriarchal discourse, which supports the supremacy of men. The present study examines the impact of ideology and discourse on the regulation of the power relations between men and women through referring to the ideas of Foucault, and the second-wave feminists. It aims to show that Weldon subverts male ideology which naturalizes the superiority of men, and argues that power relations are not natural but they are ideologically constructed. The study concludes that the author believes that the oppression of women and their exploitation are ideological.
