Abstract :Various plant species are used in the landscaping of public areas. However, when selecting these plants, their toxic properties are generally overlooked in favour of their urban aesthetic value, with preference given to species that possess ornamental, hedge, or groundcover characteristics. Nevertheless, several scientific studies have indicated that some of these plant species can cause poisoning. The presence of plants containing toxic compounds in parts such as roots, stems, leaves, fruits, seeds, rhizomes, and bulbs within public spaces poses a potential threat to public health. Therefore, identifying plant species that may be hazardous to human health, as well as understanding which specific plant parts are responsible for toxicity, is crucial for preventing accidental poisonings and protecting public health. This study aims to identify toxic plant taxa present in public areas within Burdur Province, Türkiye. For this purpose, observations were conducted during various periods in the spring, summer, and autumn of 2024, plants were examined, and poisonous species were recorded. A large number of previous studies were consulted to determine the toxicity information of the plants. In the study areas, 109 poisonous plant taxa from 54 families were identified, 68 of which were woody. The three families with the highest number of poisonous taxa were Rosaceae, Fabaceae (Leguminosae), and Solanaceae. Keywords : Burdur, peyzaj bitkileri, süs bitkileri, toksikoloji, zehirli bitkiler
