Abstract :The election of the president in Türkiye has always been open to crisis because of its importance. Türkiye began electing president through a popular vote in 2014 in a parliamentary system thanks to the amendment in the constitution through a referendum held in 2007 following a crisis because of a memorandum issued by the chief of general staff in the official website of Turkish Armed Forces on 27 April 2007 regarding the following presidential elections. Türkiye moved to presidential system through another popular referendum held in 2017. Thanks to the amendment in the constitution in the same referendum, the president can be reelected directly by the citizens. Hence, the incumbent president and presidential candidates do political activities like travel to provinces. This study argues that the number of President Erdogan’s travel to metropole provinces positively correlates to the share of the president’s votes in these provinces in the elections.
