Abstract :Family medicine emerges as the most influential factor of primary health care services in terms of being easily and quickly accessible by all individuals and being free of charge. Therefore, family medicine is critical, especially in health promotion and protection functions. Today, it is known that individuals\` lifestyles seriously affect health, and many chronic health problems can be prevented by changes made in lifestyle. It is seen that all of the countries that have achieved long-term success in the health system use primary health care services effectively and efficiently. However, especially family medicine services are critically important for the effective and efficient use of primary health care services. In this context, family medicine, as a primary health care service, facilitates the effective use of health services, reducing the burden on secondary and tertiary care, thus contributing to the more efficient use of general health services. This study shares the general situation in Turkey and the world regarding the family medicine institution, one of the healthcare providers\` most frequently consulted structures
