Abstract :Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies are systems that allow the collection of information for a part or parts of the earth for a certain purpose, the processing of the collected information into data, and the use of this data with computer-based software. The technique described as Remote Sensing (RS) can be described as the technology of collecting information without any physical contact, used in the phase of collection of GIS data. A patent, on the other hand, in general is an exclusive right granted for an invention, which is a product or method that offers a different technical solution than those in the state of the art, resulting from studies carried out to solve a technical problem. Patents can also be defined as the documents given to the products of ideas that emerge with the realization of ideas. With this study, the patent statistics applied for the original outputs after the studies in the field of RS and GIS technologies were examined, and the development, orientation and current situation in the field were tried to be revealed. In this context, patent databases were searched and the statistical data found were tried to be interpreted by graphing. The study revealed that patent applications regarding remote sensing and geographic information systems started in the second quarter of the 1900s. It was determined that the highest number of applications came from the United States, Japan, and China. Despite the high number of applications, it was observed that the number of granted patents was low, resulting in a low registration rate.
