Investigation on Efficiency of the Harvesting Machineries at Artvin Regional Directorate of Forestry

Abstract :The use of mechanization techniques is very difficult to the extraction of logs because about half of the forests in Turkey are in the mountainous areas. The use of mechanical devices in forestry activities is very small, because of difficult terrain conditions, forestry policy and economic constraints. Machinery used extraction activities such as forestry tractors, skylines and loaders were imported from abroad. The most efficient utilization of these machines is important the implementation of forestry activities in the economic and environmental terms. In this study, it was examined the effectiveness of MB-Trac 800 (1), MB-Trac 900 (2), Urus M III (2), Koller K 300 (3), Gantner (1) and Liebherr 902 (1) using within the production areas of Artvin Regional Directorate of Forestry in 2008 and 2009. Average efficiency of the machines are calculated based on monthly working hours in the year and the amount of products carring. As a result, it has been identified as skiddiers were more efficient at short distances. It was found that the average yield of MB-Trac 900 was more than average yield of MB-Trac 800.
