Abstract :This study investigates how the emotion of jealousy is situated in ḥadīth literature and how it is conceptualized in psychology, offering a comparative analysis. The aim is to evaluate how jealousy is defined as an emotion in ḥadīths, the circumstances in which it is considered legitimate or disapproved of, and the psychological processes that modern psychology uses to explain jealousy. The significance of this research lies in its contribution to understanding the conceptual convergences and divergences between ḥadīth and psychological frameworks. Employing a qualitative design, the study analyzes ḥadīth narrations and psychological conceptualizations through comparative content analysis. The ḥadīths examined were identified by surveying the Nikāḥ and Nisāʾ sections of the al-Kutub al-Sitta, and were analyzed under the following themes: “Divine jealousy (ghayratullāh),” “retroactive jealousy,” “behavioral expressions of jealousy,” “justification of jealousy,” and “reasoned vs. unreasoned jealousy”. Findings indicate that both literatures acknowledge jealousy as an inherent human emotion. Ḥadīth literature interprets jealousy within a religious-ethical frame, emphasizing awareness of emotional balance. The study demonstrates that examining jealousy across religious texts and psychology provides a strong, theoretically grounded basis for the analysis of emotions and concepts.
