Abstract :Öz Mermer ya da taştan yapılan ve yüzeylerinin düzeltilmesi ile elde  edilen mezar stelleri, üzerlerindeki yazıt ve betimlerle ölümsüzlüğü simgeleyen  antik dönem insanının mesajlarını yansıtan eserlerdir. Bu eserlerde gördüğümüz  figürler gerek vücut diliyle gerekse de bir takım sembollerle nasıl  bir geçmişe sahip olduklarını, erdemlerini, mesleğini ve ölümden sonra nasıl  bir hayat sürme arzusunda olduklarını ifade etmeye çalışmışlardır. Bu istek  sadece ölen kişinin değil bazen de ailesinin ilgi alanlarını ve yaşamını açıklayan  birçok sembol ve nesnelerden ibaretti. Antik Dönemde Mysia olarak anılan  bölge, mezar steli üreten diğer merkezlere göre özel bir yere sahipti. Bu  ayrıcalık kendini steller üzerinde işlenen mimari, mitoloji, doğa ve insan figürleri  gibi unsurlarda göstermekteydi. Geçmişin bir aynası olarak değerlendirebileceğimiz  mezar stelleri üzerinde, oturan ya da ayakta duran erkekkadın  figürleri, çocuk figürleri, sunu yapan hizmetçi tipleri ile birlikte ölen  kişileri ya da ailesini temsil eden unsurlar ele alınarak verilmek istenen mesajlar  yorumlanacaktır.  Anahtar Kelimeler: Mezar steli, Mysia, İkonografi Abstract Funerary steles which are obtained by glazing their surfaces and  made of marble or stone with the purpose of those who are deceased are the  works symbolizing eternity with the inscriptions and descriptions on. The  figures seen on those works try to represent what kind of history they have,  their virtues, professions and what kind of life they would like to have after  death through their body languages and various symbols. This wish is sometimes  made up of many symbols and materials explaining not only the deceased  but also the interests and lifestyle of the family of the deceased. The  region called Mysia in the Ancient Period (most parts of the Southern Marmara)  had a special place in proportion to the other centres where funerary  steles are produced. This privilege is based on the presentation of elements  such as architecture, nature, mythology and human figures on funerary steles  within a wide composition. Funerary steles which are evaluated as the mirror  of the past will be explained through the messages which are given via symbols  of male, female and child figures, and serving maidens.
