Abstract :SEPs in disorders of the peripheral and central nervous system 8/ The main aim to record SEPs is to identify and localize a lesion involving somatosensory pathways. Criteria distinguishing abnormal from normal SEPs to nerve stimulation are absent peaks, slowed peripheral conduction velocity and prolonged central conduction time. Absolute peak latencies, amplitude and differences of latency and amplitude of SEPs to stimulation of each side are less reliable indicators of abnormality. The importance of SEPs in the diagnosis of disorders involving peripheral and central nervous system is re¬viewed in this article.
