Abstract :Empyema occurs with the spreeding of pulmonary infections and the other infections in the body sites to the pleural cavity in childhood. Thoracentesis and appropriate antibiotic therapy are sufficient in the early stages of the empyema. In the late stages, some surgi¬cal interventions such as thoracostomy and decortication are preferred. In this report, empyema in children has been reviewed in the view of the literature. Çocukluk yaş grubu ampiyemleri, akciğerlerde yada vücudun başka bir bölgesinde bulu¬nan enfeksiyonun plevral boşluğa yayılması sonucu meydana gelir. Enfeksiyonun başlangıç döneminde torasentez ve uygun antibiyotik tedavisi yeterli olurken ilerlemiş va¬kalarda torakostomi ve dekortikasyon gibi cerrahi girişimler uygulanmaktadır. Bu maka¬lede, çocukluk yaş grubundaki ampiyemler literatür ışığında gözden geçirilmiştir.
