Abstract :Retrospective Analysis of Adult Poisoning Cases in the Emergency Department This study is a retrospective review of the charts of adult patients presented with history of poisoning to the Dokuz Eylül University emergency department insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(ED);. The study was planned to describe the prevalence of poisoning in adults, presentation and demographic characteristics and ED management and disposal of the patients. Three hundred fifty-one patients with ingestion of oral therapeutic agents within the study period insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(June 1st 1998 to June 1st 1999); were enrolled in the study. Analgesic agents, psychiatric drugs and nontoxic agents were the most common toxins encountered in the patients. A substantial proportion of the patients presented within two hours after ingestion. Modes of decontamination insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(i.e., gastric lavage and activated charcoal); are utilized much more commonly than in the literature insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(%80);. A small but significant proportion of the patients insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(%5.1); revealed to harbor a blood drug level which was considered as toxic, as determined by the Poison Information Center located in our University. Eight percent of the cases were admitted to the hospital, which is lower than western institutions. Hospital admission rates needs to be improved through revision of hospital policies. Large, multi-centric studies are needed to define the exact figures and characteristics of patients exposed to toxic drug ingestion in Turkey Bu tanımlayıcı çalışmada DEÜTF Hastanesi acil servisine çalışma süresince başvuran yetişkin hasta populasyonunda oral alman terapötik ajanlarla zehirlenme olgularının demografik ve patolojik özelliklerini tanımlamayı amaçladık. Çalışmada bilgisayar kayıtlanna dayanarak bir yıllık dönemde insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(1 Haziran 1998`den 1 Haziran 1999`a kadar); başvuran 351 hastanın verileri geriye dönük değerlendirildi. Oral yoldan alman ajanlarla zehirlenmede en çok kullanılan ajan grubunun analjezikler, psikiyatrik ilaçlar ve nontoksik ajanlar olduğu saptanmıştır. Üniversitemiz bünyesinde etkinlik gösteren Zehir Danışma Merkezi`ne danışılan olguların kan ilaç düzeyleri 13 olguda terapötik aralıkta, 18 olguda insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(%5.1); toksik bulunmuştur. Hastaların büyük çoğunluğunun insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(%80); tedavisinde gastrik lavaj ve/veya aktif kömür uygulamasını içeren de-kontaminasyon uygulanmıştır. Sadece 29 olgu insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(%8.2); yatırılmıştır. Bu sayı benzer yurtdışı çalışmaların çok gerisindedir. Yatış oranlarının normalize edilmesi için öncelikle eksiklikler saptanmalı ve hastane politikaları gözden geçirilmelidir. Türkiye genelinde oral ajanlarla zehirlenmenin gerçek pre-valansını saptamak için çok merkezli, geniş ölçekli çalışmalara gereksinim vardırKeywords :
