Abstract :Local Anaesthetics: A New Agent, Levobupivacaine In this review article; history of local anesthetics beginning with `cocaine`, general effect mechanism, chemical structure, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamical properties of local anesthetics were described. Mechanism, symptoms and treatment of the systemic toxic effect caused by local anesthetics were explained. In the last part of this article, the clinical and pharmacological properties of levobupivacaine which is a new local anesthetic were summarized with related studies on. Bu derlemede lokal anesteziklerin `kokain` ile başlayan tarihsel gelişimi, genel etki mekanizması, kimyasal yapıları, farmakokinetik ve farmakodinamik özellikleri anlatıldı. Lokal anesteziklere bağlı sistemik toksik etkinin oluşumu, semptomları ve tedavisinden bahsedildi. Son bölümünde yeni bir lokal anestezik olan levobupivakainin klinik ve farmakolojik özellikleri ilgili çalışmalarla özetlendi.
