Abstract :Aeromonas veronii is an emerging zoonotic pathogen implicated in septicemia and ulcerative diseases in freshwater fish. Increasing reports of its presence in aquatic environments and its pathogenic potential in both humans and animals highlight the need for active surveillance. This study aimed to determine the prevalence bacteriological tissue tropism, and antimicrobial resistance of A. veronii in two commonly consumed freshwater fish species Cyprinus carpio and Leuciscus cephalus from natural habitats. A total of 75 fish samples were collected from the Tigris River in December 2024. Tissue tropism was assessed bacteriologically by isolating the bacterium from liver, kidney, gills, and fins. A. veronii was detected in 61.3% of fish, predominantly in liver and kidney tissues. Isolates exhibited high resistance to ampicillin (90.9%) and oxytetracycline (97%), while remaining moderately susceptible to enrofloxacin and streptomycin (72.7%). These findings indicate a high prevalence of multidrug-resistant A. veronii in wild freshwater fish, emphasizing potential public health risks and the need for improved monitoring and responsible antibiotic use. Keywords : Sucul zoonotik ajan, Cyprinus carpio, Leuciscus cephalus, MALDI-TOF
