Abstract :Objective: Traumatic intraventricular haemorrhage insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(IVH); is generally associated with severe head injury. However, the incidence and effects on prognosis have not been identified clearly. We tried to find out effects of traumatic IVH in head injuries on prognosis. Methods: A series of 74 cases with severe head injury insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Glasgow Coma Scale insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(GCS); score 8 or less); was reported in this study. The patients were divided into 2 groups. Group A:16 cases with traumatic IVH. Group B:58 cases without traumatic IVH. Traumatic IVH was classified according to Pia classification. Results: GCS score of traumatic IVH patients on admission were significantly lower than the other group. However, there were no differences in Glasgow outcome score between group A and group B. There were only marked differences between the hospitalization periods of surviving cases. Conclusion: Traumatic IVH is frequently associated with severe head injuries, but the presence of traumatic IVH does not seem to influence the outcome.
