Abstract :XVI. Yüzyılda Osmanlı Ülkesi’nin bir çok yerinde çeşitli tabii afetler meydana gelmiştir. Bu afetler, şiddetleri ve süreleri oranında toplum hayatına etkiler yapmıştır. Söz konusu afetlerin önemli olanları; kıtlıklar, salgın hastalıklar, depremler, yangınlar, çekirge istilaları, şiddetli yağmurlar ve ağır geçen kışlar olarak sıralanabilir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Deprem, Yağmur, Kıtlık, Başkent, Ticaret   Abstract : Different natural catastrophes were occured in the various regions of Ottoman country at XVI. Century. These catastrophes had a very bad effect on social living. The important catastrophes are called; scarcities, infectious dieseases, earthquakes, conflagrations, grosshoper invasions, intensive rains and difficulty winter etc. The capital Istanbul was exposed to different natural catastrophes during XVI. Century. Because of Istanbul is the capital of country, these effects are influenced over the large area. Istanbul, was foremost city of country from economic, social, cultural point of view and it’s population was crowded. The earthquake that occured in Istanbul at 1509 had a very bad effect on Istanbul and other cities of country by severely. However, at the severe winter seasons in Istanbul scarcities were occured. Therefore the other cities that depend on Istanbul’s commercial activity was influenced too.We can inrease the count of these examples. But aforementioned two occurences are enough to prove how grade important of Istanbul city. Key Words : Earthquake, Rain, Scarcity, Capital City, Trade
