Abstract :ÖZET Yazılı malzemenin toplanıp bir araya getirilmesi, toplanan bu malzemeden yararlanılıp gelecek kuşaklara aktarılması kadar önemlidir. Bu gelenek Kayseri'de M. Ö. II. binde başlamış, Cumhuriyet'e kadar gelmiştir. Günümüze kadar ulaşan bu kütüphane geleneginde Kayseri'de öne çıkan bir olay; ilk çarşı (Bedesten) kutuphanesinin olmasıdır. Bununla birlikte Türk-İslam kultürünü oluşturan vakıf kuruluşları vasıtasıyla binlerce kitap bağışlanmış, böylece gUnümüze kadar ulaştırılmıştır. ABSTRACT The gathering together of written material is as important as the transfer of it to the coming generations. This tradition began in Kayseri in B. C. 2000 and contiuned unti! the coming of the Republic. Within this library tradition the fırst Bedestan library in Kayseri emerged. The fough foundation organısations, making up the Turkish-İslam culture, thousands of books wel'e domted and because of this are available today.
