SUMMARY An Investigatiol1 on the Growing of Soybean in Eastern Anatolia The soybean is now the most imprortant oilseed crop in the world. Its primary products, soybean oil and protein, rich soyhean meal, are the largest source of supply of vegetable proteins and vegetable oiis. Soybean variety trials has been intial1y investigated on mineral soils in 1966. The experiment was located near number four weıı at the land of Ataturk University farm-Erzurum. Ten varieties of soybean was obatained from America, five varieties from the seed-breeding station in Samsun, and five varieities from the Faculty of Agriculture in Ankara. In order to cond uct the yield tests in Erzurum, Elazığ, Erzİncan and Iğdır in i 967 and 1968, twelve varieties of soybean has been introduced from tbe University of Nebraska. Early maturing vanetıes were planted in Erzurum and Iate maturing in Iğdır, Erzincan and Elazığ. At the end of the experiments, the yield of soybean varieties which were planted in Erzurum, have been limited by the factors of total heat unite, short growing season and first killing frost.. However the elimatical condition of Er:zincan, Elazığ and Iğdır were more suitable for growing of soybean than Erzurum. According to the two year reusu1ts, in Erzurum variety G ran d, in Erzincan, varieties Amsoy, Horrosoy 63 and Shalby, in Elazığ, the varieties Hararsoy 63, Clark and Lee; ın Iğdır, the varıetıes elark 63, Grant, Lee and shelby have been found out as the most suitable and the most produtctive varieties. The highest yield was obtained from the variety Amsoy (315.35 Kg/Dk.) an the lowest yield from the variety Chippewa 64. in Erzincan in 1967. In Elazığ, the higest yield was obtained from Harrasoy (I65.Kg/Dk.)and the lowest yield was taken from Clark 63 (89.00 Kg/Dk). In Erzurum, the higest yield was obtained from Grant (66.40 Kg/Dk.) and the lowest yield was taken from Lincoln (6.95 Kg/Dk.). in the year of 1968, the total yield of soybeon was generaUy lower than from that of 1967.
