Abstract :This study examines the impact of competitiveness on the mining sector from both conceptual and empirical perspectives. In the literature, competitiveness is defined as the ability of a country, sector, or enterprise to create sustainable value and maintain its position in international markets. The research integrates Porter’s Diamond Model of competitive advantage with resource-based approaches, analyzing the interaction between natural and created determinants of competitiveness in mining. Conceptual modeling and secondary data analysis were employed, using indexes such as the Fraser Institute’s Annual Survey of Mining Companies (2024) and World Bank datasets to compare the competitiveness levels of different countries. Findings indicate that natural resource abundance alone is insufficient to ensure competitiveness; institutional quality, regulatory stability, technological advancement, and sustainability policies play crucial roles. Countries like Canada, Australia, and the United States maintain high competitiveness through strong institutions and advanced technology, whereas resource-rich African nations lag behind due to political and structural challenges. In Turkey’s case, despite its rich mineral diversity, regulatory uncertainties, bureaucratic delays, and financial constraints limit the sector’s competitiveness. The study suggests that Turkey should prioritize regulatory reforms, infrastructure development, human capital enhancement, and technological innovation to strengthen its mining competitiveness. In conclusion, competitiveness in the mining sector requires an integrated framework that combines natural endowments with institutional and technological capabilities.
