Abstract :Kolophon, Antik İonia Bölgesi’nin, Arkaik Dönem’den Hellenistik Dönem içlerine dek, Batı Anadolu ve Küçük Asya tarihinde önemli yere sahip olan kentlerinden biridir. Günümüzde İzmir İli Menderes İlçesi Değirmendere Köyü sınırları içerisinde kalmaktadır Res. 1 . Kent Ege Denizi’nden 10 km kadar içeride, kuzeyinde Kalaon’un Tahtalı Çayı suladığı, güneyinde ise Hales’in Traça Çayı oluşturduğu ovalık alanları Ege Denizi’nden ayıran, Sivridağ’ın kuzeydoğuya yönelik yarı yüksek yamaçları üzerine kurulmuştur.
