Abstract :In this paper, I offer an analysis to explain semantic and syntactic features of Old Anatolian Turkish possessive phrases based on a comparative approach with Standard Turkish. There are three types of possessive phrases in Standard Turkish, the first type of which expresses specificity and definiteness: \\\"çocuğun kalemi\\\", \\\"çocuk kalemi\\\", \\\"çocuğun kalem\\\". In Old Anatolian Turkish, while the first two types of possessive phrases above are frequently encountered, the third type, e.g.\\\"çocuğun kalem\\\" is unavailable. What is more, the second type, e.g. “çocuk kalemi” can also express definiteness and specificity, which means that there is another type of standard possessive phrases, in addition to genitive-possessive construction. These two standard possessive phrases of the period can be used instead of each other. But there are some semantic and syntactic constraints between the above-mentioned two variants of standard possessive phrases in addition to the common features they share.
