Abstract :Öz: Saadet Hasan Mantu, Hindistan`ın bölünmesinden önce  doğmuş Urdu diliyle yazan en ünlü öykü yazarlarındandır. Batı edebiyatından yaptığı çevirilerle edebî hayatı başlamış, İlerici Edebiyat Akımından etkilenmiştir. Öykülerinde Hindistan’ın bölünmesi sonucu ortaya çıkan sorunları sosyal, toplumsal ve psikolojik yönlerden ele almıştır. Toplum yapısına aykırı olarak müstehcenliğe de öykülerinde yer verdiği için eleştirilmiş, hakkında pek çok adli dava açılmıştır. Bölünmenin ardından Lahor’daki bir akıl hastanesinde yaşananları anlattığı “Toba Tek Singh” adlı öyküsü bölünmenin etkilerini ve akabinde oluşan kimlik sorununu tüm yönleriyle anlatmaktadır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Urduca Öykü, İlerici Edebiyat Akımı, Mantu, Toba Tek Singh. Abstract : Saadat Hasan Manto was born in India before the partition and he is the best known Urdu short story writer. He started his literary career with the translation from the Eastern literature and influenced by the Progressive Writers of his time.  In his stories, he dicussed the problems occured after the devision of India with regards to social, communual and psychological factors. He has been critisized for including obcenity that is against the social moral structure and faced lots of lawsuits. His story “Toba Tek Singh” ,that is about the experiences in a mental hospital in Lahor after the devision, explains  the effects of devision and the identity problem occured after it to the core.
