Examining the Psychological Distresses of Turkish Parents and Their Attitudes to Protect Their Children From COVID-19 During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract :Aim: This study examined the effects of the psychological distress experienced by parents during the COVID-19 pandemic on their attitudes towards their children. Material and Method: This descriptive study included a total of 301 parents. All parents completed the Descriptive Characteristics Form, COVID-19 Psychological Distress Scale and Parents\\\' Attitudes towards Protecting Their Children during the COVID-19 Pandemic Scale. Results: The mean score of the Parents’ Distress Scale was 20.48 ± 4.21, and the Attitude Scale\\\'s mean score was 99.59 ± 12.53. There was a highly significant positive correlation between the Parents\\\' Distress And Attitudes Scale (r=0.838; p<0.001). The mean scores of the the Distress Scale of non-working parents were significantly higher than the mean scores of working parents (p<0.05), and a significant difference emerged between income status and mean attitude scale score (p<0.05). Additionally, the mean the COVID-19 Psychological Distress Scale of parents whose children were vaccinated were higher than those of parents of unvaccinated children (p<.05). Conclusion: The study results show that as the psychological distress related to COVID-19 increases in parents, the attitudes of parents towards protecting their children from COVID-19 also increase.Keywords : COVID-19, Çocuk, Ebeveyn, Psikolojik Sıkıntı, Tutum
