Abstract :This review discusses Samuel Ross\\\'s book, *Qur’an Commentary and the Biblical Turn: A History of Muslim Exegetical Engagement with Biblical Text*, which explores the intricate historical relationship between Muslim exegetical traditions and biblical scriptures. Through nine detailed chapters, Ross analyses the dynamics of Qur\\\'anic commentary (tafsīr) in relation to biblical texts, revealing insights that challenge prevailing views in Islamic scholarship. Key themes include the reluctance of Qur’an commentators to engage with biblical texts directly, the socio-political factors contributing to historical gaps in interaction, and the practical barriers to accessibility affecting theological discourse. The book sheds light on the evolving relationship between the Qur\\\'an and the Bible by examining the works of significant Muslim scholars and their approaches to biblical narratives. Ross demonstrates that modern Qur\\\'an commentators have shown an unprecedented interest in biblical texts, whereas the direct use of biblical quotations was not the norm in the pre-modern tafsīr tradition. Ultimately, Ross’s meticulous scholarship invites readers to re-evaluate the complexities of Muslim engagement with biblical texts, making this work a crucial resource for those studying Islamic exegesis and the broader interplay of religious traditions.
