Abstract :Benner’s thoughts were influenced by Virginia Henderson while her studies were influenced by the studies of Hubert Dreyfus, a professor at California University. At the same time, Benner was also influenced by Richard Lazarus, a mentor in the fields of stress and coping, and various philosophers such as Jane Wrubel and Jane Rubins, with whom she had cooperated in the field of care practices for many years. Hubert Dreyfus developed the Dreyfus skill acquisition model. Later, she adapted this model to clinical nursing practices. Benner’s theory about nursing expertise is closely associated with the skill acquisition theory developed by Dreyfus and Dreyfus. Benner argues that the path from novice to expert consists of five stages: novice, advanced beginners, competent, proficient and expert
Keywords : skills acquisition, nursing, clinical wisdom
