Abstract :Globalization has been most effective in establishing a worldwide free market; in addition, it has been enhancing ethnical, cultural, and religious conflicts while imposing decentralization to developing countries. In this process, adult exclusion from social and political life is experienced. At the same time, especially in developed countries, civic education has been re-emphasized and the NGOs have been seen as vehicles to educate adults to be active members of society. Turkey has been increasingly experiencing similar consequences of globalization. This paper focuses on determining what kind of role globalization plays in the exclusion of adults from participating in social and political life as well as how NGOs contribute in inducing adults to participate in social and political life with special reference to Turkey.
Keywords : Globalization, NGOs, participation, civic education
