Psychological Flexibility Scale: Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract :Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to introduce the concept of psychological flexibility with its various dimensions and to develop a scale with validity and reliability to measure the psychological flexibility levels of individuals. In the first stage of the scale development process, an item pool was created by reviewing the literature. The created item pool was presented to the expert opinion and the pilot application form was created by making the necessary arrangements in line with the feedback. The pilot scale form was applied with 163 people and the application form of the scale was formed as a result of the preliminary analyses. As a result of the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) performed on 600 people, a structure with 23 items and 5 factors explaining 52.58% of the variance was obtained. These 5 factors were named as ‘Cognitive Flexibility’, ‘Focusing’, ‘Existential Flexibility’, ‘Adaptation’ and ‘Behavioral Flexibility’. The structure of the scale determined by EFA was analyzed with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) over 320 participants and the model was confirmed. The mindful attention awareness scale was used for convergent criterion validity and the Ruminative Thought Style Scale was used for discriminant criterion validity, and the correlation analyses were found to be significant. The reliability of the scale was determined by Cronbach\\\'s alpha internal consistency and test-retest analyses. As a result of all these analyses, the validity and reliability of the Psychological Flexibility Scale was ensured.
