Determining the Relationship between Emotional Literacy and Dyadic Adjustment in Infertile Couples

Abstract :The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between emotional literacy and dyadic adjustment levels in couples receiving infertility treatment. This study was conducted in a descriptive and correlational design with 105 couples (n=210) at the IVF Center. A Questionnaire form, the Emotional Literacy Scale and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale were used to collect the data. 81.9% of the couples participating in the study were primary infertile, 77.1% wanted to have children for 1-4 years, and 70% were diagnosed with infertility for 1-5 years. 66.7% of male participants and 73.3% of female participants did not feel under pressure due to infertility. The study revealed that the couples had high scores of emotional literacy and dyadic adjustment. There was a weak positive correlation between emotional literacy and dyadic adjustment (r=0.337, p <0.001). It was also determined that as the emotional literacy level of the infertile couples increased dyadic adjustment also increased. It may be suggested to repeat this study in experimental-control group study design or with larger sample sizes. Nurses may provide more holistic and humane care if they consider couples\\\' dyadic adjustment and emotional literacy in planning a person-centered care.
