Optimism in the Context of Social Support: The Mediating Role of Sense of Coherence

Abstract :Optimism is an important indicator of individuals\\\' psychological well-being. Therefore, revealing variables and models related to optimism may shed light on studies to increase individuals\\\' optimism. The purpose of this study, designed in this direction, is to examine the mediating role of individuals\\\' sense of coherence in the relationship between social support and optimism. The research was conducted with 427 students between the ages of 17-29 at a university in the Eastern Mediterranean Region of Turkey. Data were collected using the Perceived Social Support Scale, the Sense of Coherence Scale, and the Optimism Scale. Relationships between variables were examined with Pearson correlation analysis. In order to investigate the mediator role of sense of coherence on the relationship between social support and optimism, we used PROCESS v3.4 (Model 4) developed by Hayes. The findings show that there are significant relationships between the variables and that the sense of coherence has a mediating role between social support and optimism.
