Abstract :In this research, the transition process from traditional collective performance to choir in Turkish music was examined based on the conceptual framework of “updating tradition” through the example of “Yurttan Sesler”. Traditions naturally evolve and are reshaped in response to societal needs. It is known that the events experienced in the world and in Turkey in the first quarter of the 20th century reshaped societies. The society, which took shape with a newly established Republic in Turkey, sustained its musical heritage through modernization and adapted to the change with institutional structures. This change, which led to the formation of a unique choir performance style, gave the society the opportunity to listen to its own melodies as a unison choir for many years through radio and later television broadcasts. People became familiar with this new performance style and kept it alive. This study employed qualitative methods, with a particular focus on historical analysis and document review. The main data sources of the research were written documents and archive records. In this research conducted through the example of Yurttan Sesler, both the social and musical dimensions of this transformation were addressed, and the cultural policies of the period and the musical tradition were evaluated comparatively.
