Abstract :In this digital and globalized world, the role of educators and functioning of school has changed significantly. Teachers are now required to teach in an increasingly multicultural classroom and to make more effective use of information and communication technologies for teaching the subject matter. No matter how good pre-service training of teachers is, it is not enough to prepare teachers for all the challenges they will face throughout their profession. School organizations seek to provide teachers with opportunities for professional development in order to sustain a high standard of providing students with the best learning knowledge and experiences to prepare them for today’s fast changing world. From this standing point, this study is guided by Social Learning theory to discuss the reasons for teacher professional development in this ever changing world. More precisely, this study highlights approaches that school organizations could adopt as a means to ensure professional development for teachers as a means to realize effective education that can promote innovative thoughts and skills needed for preparing learners who will be responsible and productive global citizens. Based on our analysis of various empirical studies, the study concludes by underlining the benefits of teacher professional development in the teaching profession as a way to stimulate understanding of continuing education in the modern world.
