Abstract :Women in Bosnia and Herzegovina are facing an unequal and stigmatizing treatment in the public sphere. Post-war transition usually is only an excuse for putting aside the issue of women's human rights. Various economic, social, political, security, cultural and other issues in the state always take priority over these rights. Social environments can be divided into categories: economic and cultural environment, in which the emancipation of women takes place. One of cross-sections were these environments meet and operate is the academic community and, therefore, it is examined more closely in this paper. Its empirical part refers to the research conducted at one public university (the University of Zenica), which employs approximately 350 persons. The questionnaire, composed for the purposes of this research, was sent to, and fulfilled by, the female employees with university background, who are engaged in the teaching process. The guiding idea was that both male and female employees have dedicated a significant number of years of their lives to their education and career development, so the research aimed to explore the ways how careers, advancements and successes of men and women are perceived, on the one side, and matched with the relevant statistical data, on the other.
