Abstract :Pericardial cysts are rare benign lesions of the mediastinum and are often asymptomatic. This study aims to retrospectively analyze pericardial cyst cases surgically treated in our clinic and compare the findings with the literature.Fifteen adult patients who underwent surgical treatment between July 2012 and August 2021 were included in the study. Clinical, radiological, and surgical data were retrospectively reviewed. All patients underwent chest CT and radiography. Advanced imaging such as PET-CT and echocardiography was performed in selected cases. All cysts were surgically removed and examined histopathologically.A total of 66.7% of patients were asymptomatic, and 73.3% of cysts were located in the right cardiophrenic angle. The most commonly used surgical approach was video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). The mean cyst diameter was 4.43±2.34 cm, the average drainage duration was 1.6±0.72 days, and the mean hospital stay was 2.73±1.09 days. Postoperative complications occurred in two patients (13.3%). No recurrences were observed.Although pericardial cysts are generally benign, they may lead to serious complications. Surgical excision is a safe and effective treatment, especially when performed using minimally invasive techniques due to their low recurrence rates and faster recovery.
