Abstract :Summary:   As a concept the meaning and function of irony has been radically changed since its ancient form. In the form of ancient tragedy, especially when Sophocles was considered, irony became the method of transforming the well-known myth into a spectacle, by putting the pre-informed audience in a higher position compared to his heroes on the stage. Euripides, notoriously known as the gravedigger of ancient Greek tragedy, both used the irony of Sophocles sometimes even more profoundly than its creator and a very special treatment of the Messenger to form an original irony of his own.
