Abstract :Single-Phase Induction Machines (SPIMs), extensively employed in industry and homes, offer significant energy-saving potential. New regulations, starting from July 1, 2023, obligate that SPIMs with a rated power between 0.12 kW and 0.75 kW must provide to IE2 efficiency standards (per (EU)2019/1781 and (EU)2021/341). This paper aims designing single-phase squirrel-cage induction machine with high efficiency (IE2). 0.55 kW a SPIM is considered for the design. Initial design specifications, encompassing dimensioning, slot-pole selection, parametric optimization of stator and rotor geometry, and finite element analyses, validate the SPIM design. Design parameters, such as slot opening, end-ring length, and rotor bar width, are analyzed for their impact on performance metrics including efficiency, power factor, starting current, and starting torque. The analysis results indicate a power factor of 0.98 and an efficiency of 77.8% at full load. Using the design data, the SPIM is then prototyped and subjected to testing in accordance with the IEC 60034-2-1:2014 standard for rotating electrical machines - Part 2-1: Standard methods for determining losses and efficiency from tests. The performance analysis of the SPIM is conducted at an ISO/EN 17025 accredited R&D Laboratory, achieving an efficiency of 80.1%. This research highlights the potential of SPIMs to meet IE2 efficiency standards, offering significant energy savings in various applications.
