Abstract :Upper Karasu Basin is located in the east of the Upper Murat-Van Section of the Eastern Anatolia Region and is hydrographically located in the Closed Basin of Lake Van. In the world where water is gaining more and more importance, closed basin waters have a special importance for all living things. Therefore, it is of vital importance to protect, maintain and transfer the water potential of this region to the next generations. In this way, the main aim is to reveal the hydrographic features of this area, which has not been studied with a geographical perspective. This research; It was synthesized and prepared in the office environment in the light of the findings obtained by using field studies, remote sensing techniques and geographic information systems. When looked at, climatic changes and neotectonic movements in the Pleistocene have an important role in the morphological structure of streams today. The result of this is the formation of the stream network, which is unique to the Quaternary and is the basis of the current drainage network. The richness of the river network at the bottom of the basin in the area where the traces of tectonism are intense is a result of the collection of the drainage network in this section. The surface waters in the basin are drained by the Karasu River and its tributaries. The Karasu River is the most important hydrographic unit that determines and controls the morphology of the site. In the area, which is active in terms of tectonic activity, the rivers generally flow in narrow valleys in the upper course where slope conditions are high, while they are meandering in the wide plains at the bottom of the basin. In the spring months when snow and ice melts are intense, it causes floods due to the more effective temporary river branches and accumulates in places where the slope decreases. The fact that the basin floor is surrounded by mountainous areas has a role in this. Likewise, in this respect, the water collection area has the character of a centripetal drainage network.
