Abstract :Renal Tubular Cells Undergo Apoptosis When Exposed to Uric Acid and Calcium Oxalate Crystals Calcium oxalate monohydrate crystals insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(COMC); and uric acid crystals insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(UAC); are endocytosed by renal tubular epithelial cells insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(RTEC);. We studied whether these crystals could also induce programmed cell death insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(apoptosis); which may cause release of endocytosed crystals either into the tubular lumen or into the interstitium. RTEC from the opossum proximal tubule insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(OK cells); were grown in RPM1 media until subcontinent, growth arrested for 48 hours, and incubated with 10 pgr/ml COMC and 10 pgr/ml UAC for 24 hours. We concluded that COMC and UAC induce apoptosis of RTEC. This may be of pathogenetic importance not only for interstitial scarring insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(release into interstitium); but also for crystal growth and stone formation insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(release into tubular lumen);. Kalsiyum okzalat ve ürik asil kristalleri böbrek tübül epilel hücreleri tarafından en-dositoz yoluyla alınırlar. Çalışmada bu kristallerin böbrek tübül epitel hücrelerinde kris¬tallerin tübüler lümene ve intertisyuma salınmasına neden olabilecek programlanmış hücre ölümünü insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(apoptozis); arttırıcı etkileri araştırıldı. Opossum proksimal tübül epitel hücreleri RPM1 besiyerinde üretildikten ve 48 saat üremeleri durdurulduktan sonra 10 pgr/ml ürik asit ve 10 pgr/ml kalsiyum oksalat kristallari ile 24 saat muamele edildi ve sonra 48 saat süre ile büyümeleri durduruldu. Ürik asit ve kalsiyum oksalat monohidrat kristallerinin böbrek tübül epitel hücrelerinde apoptozisi arttırdığı sonucuna varıldı. Apoptozisin artması böbrekte interstisiyel kristal salınması ile skarlaşmayı. ayrıca tübüler lümene kristallerin salınması ise yeni taş oluşmasını açıklamaktadır
