Abstract :Nesfatin-1, which is known as an anorexigenic peptide, has a potential role in the control of glucose/insulin regulation. We aimed to investigate serum nesfatin-1 levels in patients with untreated hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and correlate with fasting plasma glucose insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(FPG); and postload glucose levels. This study included 40 patients with hypothyroidism insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(mean age; 32.3±12.6 years, body mass index insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(BMI);; 27.8±7.9 kg/m 2 ); and 54 age and BMI matched healthy control group insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(mean age; 29.3±8.5 years BMI; 29.7±7kg/m 2 );. All subjects underwent a 75 gr oral glucose tolerance test. Serum nesfatin 1 levels were similar among the hypothyroid subjects and control group insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(14.1±13.4 vs 16.7±15.4 ng/ml, respectively); insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p=0.152);. FPG insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(95±8 vs 96.6±7.9 mg/dl); and 2 h postload glucose insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(113.6±26.7 vs 113.1±27.5 mg/dL); levels did not differ between the two groups insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p=0.339, p=0.976 insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(respectively););. There was no significant correlation between nesfatin-1 and free T3, free T4, TSH, anti-thyroglobulin autoantibody insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(TGAb); and antithyroid peroxidase autoantibody insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(TPOAb); insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p>0.05);. While nesfatin 1 levels did not correlate with FPG, 2 h postload glucose, The Homeostasis Model Assessment insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(HOMAIR);, total-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels, it showed a negative correlation with triglyceride levels insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(p=0.008);. Nesfatin-1 levels were not associated with FPG and postload glucose levels in patients with hypothyroidism.
