Abstract :Wheat is the most important cereal in Turkish Agriculture. Turkey needs to increase wheat production in order to meet the demands of increasing population using newly developed sustainable and environmentally friendly methods in agriculture. This study reviews the uses of biotechnologic methods in wheat breeding. The main emphasis has been put on comparisons and integrations of new techniques into classical breeding methods that are doubled haploid production, biochemical and moleculer marker techniques and genetically modified plants. It has been concluded that the use of doubled haploids in breeding programmes has been increasing. If a molecular marker is to be used in a breeding programme it must be based on PCR which can allow analyses of many samples in a short time with less cost. It has also been concluded that the current transformation technology can only allow transfer of major genes (disease resistance and quality related genes) and the techniques described here will still be used to transfer multiple genes and gene blocks. Keywords : Buğday, ıslalı programları, laboratuvar teknikleri, transgenik bitkiler
