Abstract :Five strawberry cultivars were grown as frigo seedlings planted in July by using two management systems, open grow-ing and high tunnel, in 1996 and 1997. Yield, earliness and some quality characters were observed. The high tunnel system made the crop 2-3 weeks earlier than the open field system with a longer period. Yield was also high in the high tunnel system with 1053 grams per plant while it was 877 grams in open growing. Miranda was the highest yielding cultivar in both management systems. Cultivars Camarosa and Miranda were superior for fruit weight and the rate of high quality.
