Abstract :In this study, changes in combustion properties in solid wood treated with different chemicals and varnishes were investigated. Wood samples prepared from Scotch pine insert ignore into journalissuearticles values( Pinus sylvestris L.); and chestnut insert ignore into journalissuearticles values( Castanea sativa Mill.); were impregnated with tanalith-CBC, water repellent insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(WR); solutions + synthetic varnish and WR + polyurethane varnish. Afterwards, synthetic and polyurethane varnishes were applied to the surfaces. Varnishing had the initial effect of fire retardation in both Scotch pine and chestnut impregnated with tanalith-CBS. Loss of weight was found to be 20% in chestnut samples and 13% in Scotch pine samples. However, varnishes did not affect combustion properties after the impregnation proccess. The split result of combustion did not occur in samples impregnated with tanalith-CBS samples. Keywords : Turk J Agric For, 23, 1999, 541 550 Turk J Agric For, vol 23, iss 5
