Liver Function in Cows with Retained Placenta

Abstract :The aim of the present study was to compare the liver function of cows with retained placenta insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(n = 21); with that of control post-partum cows insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(n = 12);. Liver biopsies of the cows with retained placenta showed that the mean percentage of fat in the liver parenchyma was 32.5%. The serum glucose, albumin, cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(HDL);, low density lipoprotein insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(LDL);, total calcium and inorganic phosphorus levels of cows with retained placenta were significantly lower than those of control cows whereas the aspartate aminotransferase insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(AST); and gamma glutamyltransferase insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(GGT); serum concentrations of cows with retained placenta were greater than those of control cows. In conclusion, this study indicated that retained placenta might be associated with fatty liver.
