Abstract :This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of formaldehyde and blood treatments of sunflower meal on the degra-dation characteristics and effective degradability of dry matterinsert ignore into journalissuearticles values(DM);, organic matter and crude protein. Sunflower meal treated with 0.8 g formaldehyde/100 g crude protein, 0.5, 0.75, 1.5 and 2 L whole blood/kg DM. Three adult rumen fistulated merino rams were used in this study. Samples were incubated in the rumen for 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, 48 and 60 h. Formaldehyde treatment of sunflower meal reduced the amount of rapidly soluble protein, degradation rate constant and effective degradability of protein by 75.36, 22.70 and 20.89%, respectively. However the protein which in time will degrade increased by 19.57% and maximum potential degradability of protein in rumen was not affected. Treating sunflower meal with 0.5, 0.75 and 1.5 L blood/kg DM did not affect degradability after 48 h incubation and effective degradability in rumen. Blood treatment at the level of 2 L/kg DM reduced the degradation rate consant and effective degradability of protein in rumen by 39.40 and 24.84%, respectively.
