Maximum swimming speed predictions for Mullus barbatus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Diplodus annularis (Linnaeus, 1758)

Abstract :Maximum swimming speed of red mullet insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Mullus barbatus); and annular sea bream insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Diplodus annularis); was estimated based on muscle twitch experiments. The maximum estimated speed of red mullet insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(mean length: 16.9 cm); was 3.14 m/s insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(18.6 bl/s); at 26 °C. At 20 °C the maximum estimated speed of annular sea bream insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(mean length: 11.5 cm); was 1.92 m/s insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(16.7 bl/s);. Maximum swimming speed of annular sea bream decreased as the temperature decreased.Swimming performance is the main characteristic that determines survival in many species of fish and other aquatic animals insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Plaut, 2001);. There are 3 levels of swimming activity insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Özbilgin et al., 2004); and several methodologies for measuring swimming performance.
