Evaluation of dental hospital helping staff's awareness of \"protective measures to be taken\" against the risk of contagion of COVID-19 in Turkey: A cross-sectional Study

Abstract :Amaç: Diş hastaneleri Covid-19 bulaş riski açısından yüksek olan çalışma ortamlarıdır. Bu ortamlarda çalışan persone- lin enfeksiyon kontrolü sağlanması amacıyla bilgi düzeylerinin tespit edilmesi önemlidir. Bu çevrimiçi anket çalışması- nın amacı, diş hastanelerinde çalışan sağlık çalışanları harici personelin Covid-19 bulaş yöntemleri ve alınması gereken önlemler hakkındaki bilgi düzeylerinin ve farkındalıklarının ölçülmesi ve kurumsal eğitimlerin öneminin araştırılmasıdır. Yöntemler: 30 soruluk çoktan seçmeli ve Evet/Hayır soruları içeren anket çevrimiçi olarak iki ay süre boyunca katılımcılara doldurtulmuştur. Gönüllü anket katılımcıları her grup en az 50 kişi olacak şekilde güvenlik-gö- revlisi, resepsiyon-görevlisi ve/veya sekreterlik, kat-görevlisi ve/veya temizlik-görevlisi ve idari-bölümler olarak belirlenmiştir. Toplanan 285 adet anketin cevapları istatistiksel olarak P<0.05 anlamlılık düzeyinde Ki-kare testi kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Bulgular: Bulaşma yolları sorulduğunda öksürme (%90.9), hapşırma (%90.2), solunum yolu salgıları (%89.9), damla- cık yolu (%87) ve ellerle temas (%82.8) en çok alınan yanıtlardan olmuştur. Alınan önlemlerin yeterli olduğuna en çok inanan grup kat-görevlisi/temizlik-görevlisi çalışanlarının, en az inanan grubun ise diğer idari-bölümlerde çalışanlar olduğu belirlenmiştir (P1:0.014; P<0.05). Hastanede çalışmaktan dolayı en fazla endişe duyan katılımcıların hasta ile yüz yüze teması olmayan idari kadroda olduğu gözlenmiştir. Katılımcıların bilgi edinme yolları sırasıyla Sağlık bakanlığının yayınladığı bildiriler (%86.3) ve basın-yayın organları yolu (%69.5) ile olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Kurum içi eğitimlerden en fazla faydalanan katılımcıların ise kat-görevlileri olduğu bulunmuştur (P1:0.001; P<0.05). Sonuç: Sağlık çalışanı harici personelin Covid-19 bulaş ve bulaştan korunma yöntemleri hakkındaki bilgi düzey- lerinin yeterli seviyede olduğu ancak güncel bilgilere kolaylıkla ulaşamadıkları tespit edilmiştir. Güncellenerek tekrarlanacak kurum içi eğitimler ile pandemi döneminde bulaş riskini azaltmak için doğru ve güncel bilgilen- dirmelerin gerekli olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Covid-19; bulaş yolları,kurumsal eğitim; evrensel önlemler, çevrimiçi anket. ABSTRACT Objective: Dental-hospitals are with a high risk of Covid-19-transmission. The level of knowledge of staff in these environments is important for infection control. The purpose of this survey is to measure the level of knowledge and awareness of non-healthcare-staff working in dental-hospitals about Covid-19, it’s transmis- sion methods and the precautions to be taken. Methods: An online survey of 30 questions including multiple-choice and yes/no questions was used for two months. Volunteer survey participants were determined as security-guards, receptionists, housekeepers, and administrative-departments, with at least 50 people in each group. Answers of the collected 285 surveys were statistically analyzed using the chi-square-test at P<0.05 significance level. Results: Coughing (90.9%), sneezing (90.2%), respiratory secretions (89.9%), droplet-route (87%) and con- tact with hands (82.8%) were the most common responses for transmission-routes. The groups who strongly believed that the measures taken against disease transmission were sufficient were the housekeeper/clean- er-employees, while the group who least believed consisted of employees in administrative-departments (P1:0.014; P<0.05). The participants most worried about working in the hospital were in the administrative-de- partments who did not have face-to-face contact with the patient. The most frequent ways of obtaining in- formation by the participants were the statements published by the Ministry of Health (86.3%) and the media (69.5%). The participants who benefited most from corporate-training were housekeepers (P1:0.001; P<0.05). Conclusion: It has been determined that the knowledge level of non-healthcare staff about Covid-19-trans- mission and prevention methods is at a sufficient level, but they cannot easily access up-to-date information. Accurate and up-to-date information is necessary to reduce the risk of transmission during the pandemic period, with emphasis on corporate-trainings that will be updated and repeated.
