Abstract :Our objective is to attempt to study the functioning of modalities, first in Structural semantic insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Sémantique structurale);, then in Semiotic of passions insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Sémiotique des passions);, going through The Sens II insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Du sens II);. The study of modalities is better situated not only in the first book of Greimas, but also in the writings that come after, in the sense that they constitute a development and a refunding. The more Greimas elaborates the theory of semiotic, the more he deepens and improves the study of modalities. The evolution of semiotic and the evolution of modalities go simultaneously.
