Relationship Between Teachers` Professional Attitudes and the Student-Centered Teacher Behaviors

Abstract :This study was aimed to determine the perception levels of teachers towards professional attitudes and student-centered teacher behaviors and to reveal whether there is a significant relationship between these perceptions. Besides, it was tried to determine whether the relationships between teachers `perceptions of professional attitudes and perceptions of student-centered teacher behaviors were statistically significant according to teachers` personal variables. The study is a quantitative research and has been carried out in a correlational scanning model. The sample of the research was composed of 302 teachers who were employed in the primary and secondary schools chosen by random sampling method in the 2018-2019 academic year in the central district of Bolu province. As a measurement tool in the research were used ‘Professional Attitude Scale’ developed by Özgür insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(1994); and ‘Teacher Behaviors in the Classroom’ developed by Büyüköztürk, Kılıç, Karadeniz, and Karataş insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(2004);. For the analysis of data were used Mean, standard deviation, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis, and Spearman Rho correlation analysis. According to the results of the study, it was found that teachers `professional attitude was at a medium level. there was a significant difference between teachers` professional attitudes and gender variables, and no significant difference was found in education level, age, seniority, and branch variables. Teachers` views on the student-centered teacher behaviors in the classroom were at medium level. There were significant differences between teachers` student-centered behaviors in terms of gender, age, and branch, and there was no significant difference in terms of education level and seniority. It was concluded that there was a positive and moderate level relationship between teachers` professional attitudes and teachers` student-centered behaviors.Keywords : Teacher, Professional attitude, Student centered teacher behaviors
