Evaluation of the Secondary Education English Course Curriculum in Terms of Differences Between the Formal Program and the Implemented Program

Abstract :The aim of the study is to evaluate the secondary school English curriculum in terms of the differences between the formal curriculum and the implemented curriculum. The research was conducted with a case study design from qualitative research methods. The study group was carried out with the voluntary participation of nine secondary school English teachers working in public schools in Afyonkarahisar province. The data collection tool is a semi-structured interview form created to examine the secondary English curriculum in the focus of the views and experiences of secondary English teachers. The data obtained were analysed using the descriptive analysis method. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the formal curriculum was too heavy for the students\\\' levels and the type of school was important in the implementation; the teachers used short videos from audio-visual materials in their lessons; they mostly used dialogue exercises in daily life; most of the teachers provided classroom interaction with games; they followed the book about the progression of the four language skills in the curriculum in relation to each other, and the students were reluctant in the speaking and writing sections of these language skills; in the measurement and evaluation dimension, teachers mostly used project evaluation.
