İstanbul İli Sınırları İçindeki Bir Devlet Hastanesi Çalışanlarının Kızamık Seronegatifliğinin Belirlenmesi

Abstract :Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the measles seronegativity status of employees in a state hospital attached to the Ministry of Health, and to examine socio-demographic characteristics in a descriptive design. Materials and Methods: 717 employees participated in this study. Sociodemographic statistics such as age, gender and occupation were gathered from employee Personal Staff Health Cards. Serum samples were taken and tested for IgG antibody to measles. Data was analysed using the MannWhitney U Test. Results: 55.2% of participants were health care employees, while 44.8% were non-health care employees, 45.6% were male and 54.4% were female, 82.6% were aged 26-60 while 17.6% were aged 17-25. . When examinaing the relationship between measles seronegativity status, and seronegativity status and socio-demographic characteristics of the sample group, antibodies against measles with 11.8% of health care employees were seronegative while antibodies against measles with 10.1% of non-health care employees were seronegative. Antibodies against measles in 6.7% of male employees were seronegative while antibodies against measles in 14.4% of female employees were seronegative. Antibodies against measles in 9.5% of employees aged 26-60 were seronegative while antibodies against measles in 17.16% of the 17-25 age group were seronegative. In addition, 78 employees with antibodies against measles were seronegative 10.9% while 639 employees with antibodies against measles were seropositive 89.1% . Conclusion: 10.9% of the hospital staff in this study were susceptible to measles. We conclude that measles vaccination and serologic screening of all employees, especially employees who work in high risk departments, can be useful for the prevention of nosocomial spread of measles.
