Abstract :Objective: This study was performed to determine the effect of music therapy on patients’ anxiety and hemodynamic parameters during percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty. Methods: The research was performed between dates February–April 2014 in an angiography unit. Patients were randomly allocated to either the control n=35 or the experimental groups n=35 . The data were collected by a demographic questionnaire, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory STAI -Form Tx-1”, “STAI-Form Tx-2” and a data sheet for documenting hemodynamic parameters. Descriptive statistics, chi square, Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon and t-tests were used in the evaluation of the data. t-tests were used in the analysis of the data. Results: Both control groups were similar to each other in terms of sociodemographic characteristics p>0.05 . Before the intervention, the study groups did not differ significantly in terms of anxiety level and hemodynamic parameters. The level of post-intervention anxiety in the experimental group was significantly higher than the pre-test readings 36.1±3.4 and 38.3±4.5 respectively; p=0.00 . At the same time the level of post-intervention anxiety in the control group was significantly higher than the pre-test readings 36.4±3.1 and 37.5±3.8 respectively; p=0.00 . Furthermore, there was no significant change in vital signs in both groups p>0.05 .Conclusion: This study showed that the music administered through headphones to patients during percutaneous coronary intervention does not decrease procedure-related state anxiety and vital signs
