Abstract :Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the status of nurses to provide individualized care and their opinions.Method: Data of this descriptive and cross-sectional study were collected by using the nurse information form, the form for opinions of nurses on individualized care, and individualized care scale-nurse version in a university hospital and two public hospitals between February and July 2015. The sample consisted of 256 nurses who agreed to participate in the study, and who were working in the medical, surgical, and intensive care departments. Results: It was observed that 78.90% of the nurses thought that opportunities offered for providing individualized care in the hospital were insufficient; while 94.50% of the nurses considered providing individualized care as important; only 46.50% thought that they were providing individualized care. When examining the conditions that nurses allocated time except for patient care in the clinic, they were determined to allocate more time for indirect care practices such as answering the phone 30.00% , supplying drug-materials 29.00% , and checking entrance-exits of the unit 19% . While total item mean score of the nurses for supporting individuality of patients in care practices was 3.72±0.80, their total item mean score for individualizing patient care was determined to be 3.93±0.77.Conclusion: It was determined that the nurses were aware of the importance of providing individualized care but they had difficulty in providing individualized care due to some barriers. It is thought that in order to provide quality and safe individualized care service, individualized care is to be provided by taking away nurses from indirect practices and engage them in direct patient care
